Trying to make a long story short

Dad has had a busy afternoon. His new doctor came to see him. Dad was pretty sleepy, so Dr. French said he would check back in later.

The physical and occupational therapists came next. They were so nice, just wonderful. They got Dad working hard. They turned his bed into a chair and then had him wiggle and kick his feet, lift his legs, etc. He did it much more easily with his left leg but also did it consistently with his right leg (after several requests), so that's great news. They did the same type of stuff with his arms. His right arm wasn't wanting to cooperate this time, but they said they would try again tomorrow. They also had him sit up to see if he could support himself. He did great, so that means the muscles in his trunk are working. Dad's nurse told him that it's a good thing the therapists are here, because that means he's well enough to have them here.

Then the speech therapist came to evaluate his swallowing, to determine if he can eat food or if he needs a feeding tube. His swallowing was pretty good. She explained all about what was going on, but the summary is he can have the pureed and mashed up food diet for now. The good news is avoiding the feeding tube. She also evaluated his speech. She said the formal evaluation will come later, after the swelling has more time to go down. She was great too, I'm sensing a pattern.....

Dad just got a nice bath. The neurologists are coming back in soon. I'll post again then. Call my cell if you want any more details.
