What Time Is It?

Dad's doing great. Ryan gave him a very nice blessing before he went to sleep and now he's sleeping soundly and seems very comfortable. I mentioned to Ryan that they don't seem to be coming in as often to do the evaluations. His nurse just stopped by and I asked her if they will no longer be doing them every hour. She said that he's been moved to phase 2, so will only do them every two hours (yay!) and, even then, they're a little more lenient about letting him sleep if he's resting. This is a relief because they've had to wake him out of deep sleeps several times. I realize the checks they are doing are important, but it seems to me that rest is important for a recovering stroke patient too. :) So, I'm happy to know he's progressed to the next phase of his care. Baby steps...

Before he went to sleep, he had another cup of apple juice/gel. We finally got the food thickening powder, so are excited to give him some Dr. Pepper gel when he's up to it. As nasty as that sounds, I have a feeling he'll consider it quite a treat.

Dad's nurse tonight is a cute, YOUNG girl. Ryan and I keep joking that she doesn't even look old enough to have a license. She's very sweet, though, and has been very kind to Dad, even though we haven't had to see her too much (yay again!).

Dad has asked, "What time is it?" several times. He looks at his wrist frequently. I asked if he wanted his watch and he said yes. We found out that my mom had sent his watch in because she thought that he might want it. When he's awake, we'll put it on him.

Ryan has been commenting both to me and to Dad about how much progress Dad has made since yesterday. It is truly amazing the difference between the two days. And, while we know Dad is still frustrated with his limitations, Ryan has done a great job of telling Dad about how much progress he's made and that he'll continue improving. I know that at some point the progress will slow, but for now, it is truly miraculous. The body's ability to heal itself is incredible. That, coupled with excellent medical care and the prayers and blessings on my Dad's behalf are really having a tremendous impact. Thank you for keeping him in your thoughts and prayers. We truly appreciate it.
